Siesta Key is great for its white sand beaches, island ambience, laid-back bars, gift boutiques . . . and, of course, fantastic food. You’ll find everything from upscale eateries to casual picnic-style lunches on Siesta. Here are our favorites.

Drive down Ocean Boulevard on almost any given day, and you’re bound to see the outdoor patio at the Siesta Key Oyster Bar (SKOB) spilling over with people (which makes it a great place to take visitors). There’s often live music, so it can get pretty loud and fun. Chris ordered the “happy hour” oysters-on-the-half shell special: $5 for 12 oysters. We shared a calamari appetizer, which was extremely good. Chris then had the shrimp skewers and I had the seared scallops. Chris liked his shrimp, but my scallops were pretty sandy (scallops shouldn’t crunch) and fishy-smelling. The rice that came with both was probably Uncle Ben’s. Each entree came soup or salad (we opted for the Cesar, which was nothing to write home about). This casual seafood joint is the place to see and be seen, great for people watching and cocktails, happy hour and live music. Don’t wear anything nice here– this is a shorts and flip-flops kind of place. Be sure to use your Entertainment Bookcoupon for $8 off an entree.

With a name like “Miguel’s,” you might think you’re in for Mexican food. But tucked in the corner of this small strip mall is some of the finest upscale Continental cuisine you’ll find in Sarasota. The ambiance is romantic and refined. Incredible Dover sole and the rack of lamb are cut tableside right before your eyes. The bananas foster and the cherries jubilee for dessert will bring tears of joy to your eyes. Dress nicely– this is not a jeans-and-t-shirt restaurant.

With picnic benches on the outdoor patio, cold beer on tap, and a name like "The Old Salty Dog," you can guess that this is casual Key dining. The Old Salty Dog has sandwiches, burgers, salads, and a few appetizers, but the real draw is the amazing fish & chips with malt vinegar that will outdo any fish & chips you’ve ever tasted.

The Broken Egg isn’t one of Sarasota’s favorite breakfast spots for nothing. This very popular restaurant serves amazing breakfasts and lunches, pastries, and the best omlettes in town. Located on beautiful Siesta Key, the Broken Egg is ideal for those sunny summer weekends. Plan to get there early, though– this place is always crowded (but the service is fast).
