Sarasota Fishing Charters - Captain Jim Klopfer

As a fishing guide in Sarasota Florida, one thing comes to mind when I think about the holiday; family fishing! Most of my fishing charters this time of year include children and novice anglers. The key to everyone having a great time is to focus more on action and variety as opposed to seeking trophy fish or one particular species.

Easy Fishing in grass flats

Drifting the deep grass flats and passes will usually accomplish that goal. This is easy fishing that does not require great skill or experience. Anglers will cast lures or free line live shrimp to attract a variety of species. Speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, pompano, ladyfish, jacks, catfish, and other species will be landed by anglers employing this technique.

Bottom Fishing

Bottom fishing is another technique that produces plenty of action. This is often the best choice on breezy days as the docks that attract fish are often found in protected areas. Live shrimp fished on a hook with a bit of weight work best. Sheepshead, black drum, flounder, snapper, grouper, redfish, and snook will all fall prey to this type of fishing.
